Sound absorption in Hilbert fractal and coiled acoustic metamaterials

We describe here a class of acoustic metamaterials with fractal Hilbert space-filling and coiled geometry equal tortuosity for noise mitigation. Experiments are performed using four-microphone impedance tube benchmarked against non-viscous viscothermal finite element models related to configurations spanning up five fractal/geometry orders. show that the absorption can be predicted by resonance cavities associated tortuous paths. For given order, at specific frequencies is also enhanced maximizing difference between minimum maximum fluid particle velocity air inside patterns. These principles used design high-performance sound over broad frequency ranges.
